Weight Loss

While it is true that losing weight is hard for most people to accomplish, it isn’t for reasons that are complex. One need not understand confusing health sciences to learn how to lose weight. There are no complicated formulas and there’s no need to run out and buy the newest ‘miracle weight-loss cure’ on the market. Anyone who is in general good health can lose weight.

Secret to Weight Loss

There is no secret to weight loss. Scientists, nutritionists, doctors and physical trainers have said the same thing for decades: the total calories consumed must be less than the total calories spent in one week. The key to weight loss is as simple as counting calories spent and consumed.

It is generally agreed that one must create a five-hundred calorie deficit each day. In simpler terms, that means that one can eat two-hundred calories less than normal everyday while that person also burns three-hundred calories in that same day. A person is, of course, free to manipulate those numbers by either omitting five hundred calories of food each day or by eating the same and burning off five-hundred calories in one day.

It’s What You Do in a Week that Counts

There’s reason to take comfort in the fact that by indulging in extra calories or skipping the gym one day isn’t going to make a difference in weight loss. Always remember this saying: ‘It’s not what is done in one day that counts. It’s what is done in one week.

There are six more days in the week to make up for a little indulgence. In fact, many physical trainers agree that people are more motivated to eat well and exercise if they allow one day of rest. During that day of rest, dieters should also feel free to eat foods that are normally off limits.

Do Supplements Work?

There are many products on the market that promise to curb one’s appetite or burn belly fat. While most of these products are not backed by the FDA, there may be some validity to their claims. It has long been known that vitamin B and all vitamin B complexes will boost metabolism. A boosted metabolism burns more calories during the day and gives a person more energy to burn even more calories.

Unwanted Weight-Loss

There are many people trying to either gain weight or maintain their current weight. Try as they might, their bodies still seem to be shedding pounds. Reasons for this are wide-spread. Some possible reasons for unwanted weight-loss are:

  • Tapeworm
  • Loss of muscle mass due to inactivity or lack of exercise
  • COPD
  • Chron’s disease
  • Celiac disease
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Peptic Ulcer
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Underactive thyroid
  • Stomach disease
  • Prolonged stress due to grief, loss or trauma

If unwanted weight-loss equals or exceeds ten pounds, a physician should be consulted right away to check for any of the above-mentioned conditions. However, these are not the only reasons that one might experience unwanted weight-loss. It is best to get a complete check-up and closely monitor daily symptoms, mental clarity and overall feelings of well-being.
