Cold and Flu Prevention Tips

With flu and cold season upon us, it is important to safeguard your health every day. From keeping your regular medication schedule to eating right, there is a lot you can do to prevent getting infected, especially since there are no known cures for the cold or flu.

The elderly, children and those with a compromised immune system are most at risk for not just getting infected by the flu or cold, but also from having a very serious infection episode from it. Therefore, whether you are old or young, follow these simple, effective and natural ways to stay healthy this flu season.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water often. This is the way the most cases of the cold and the flu are passed from one person to another.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids: Staying hydrated flushes out your system and removes toxins that can cause an illness.
  3. Keep your hands away from your face, nose and mouth. Since this is the way that germs are both passed and entered the body, refrain from touching your face. If you must, make sure you wash hands right after.
  4. Eat a healthy diet: Load up on plenty of antioxidant –rich fruits and vegetables.
  5. Consume yogurt regularly. Many studies have suggested that regularly eating yogurt can prevent the incidence of a cold or flu. Opt for plain, low-fat or Greek yogurt.

Being proactive about preventing illness puts you in the driver seat of your health, and that leads to a happier and healthier you.
